Gardens expert gives talk March 8

In anticipation of spring, The New Canaan Garden Club and the New Canaan Beautification League welcome renowned professor and author Doug Tallamy to speak on March 8 at the library. The title of the the talk will be Restoring Nature’s Relationships at Home. The public is invited to attend free of charge with coffee served at 9:30 a.m. and the program beginning at 10 a.m. in the Lamb Room of New Canaan Library.  

Tallamy’s talk will focus on how our yards and gardens are essential parts of the ecosystems that sustain us, and what we can do to use our residential landscapes to connect the isolated habitat fragments around us. Much of his research has focused on understanding the many ways insects interact with plants and how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities.

Tallamy is a professor of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware where has authored 85 research publications. His book, Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens was awarded the 2008 Silver Medal by the Garden Writer’s Association. Tallamy is a regular columnist for Garden Design Magazine.
