A nice surprise greeted New Canaan teen Alena Abramowitz after she performed for a few dozen people including children with special needs and their parents at the Kennedy Center on Feb. 4. After the performance she was awarded a Senate Proclamation by Connecticut’s U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal who attended the event.
The 17-year-old Abramowitz was honored for a special musical program that she created for special needs children, in which she plays a small portable piano and sings. She sung one of the songs she had composed called “The Bright Side of Me” about a child overcoming challenges.
Abramowitz has been asked to perform at the annual benefit entitled “Magic Moments Benefit Concert” for the Kennedy Center on Sat, March 18 at 6 p.m. at the Quick Center at Fairfield University.
