Are you worried about the amount of time your kids are spending on their devices? Concerned about the new apps that allow your teens to text, chat and meet people all under your radar?
Renowned online safety expert, Marje Monroe, will be speaking on Wed. Jan. 25 at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Lamb Room at the New Canaan Library.
Sponsored by New Canaan CARES, Monroe’s talk will provide parents with state-of-the-art safety information and monitoring options for gaming, phones and social media. Parents will also get a better understanding of how technology affects their child’s social development. According to Meg Domino, PhD, director of CARES, “Tech devices are being used at younger ages, and for longer periods than ever before, providing our youngest children with unfettered exposures they are emotionally and developmentally unprepared to handle. Responding to the increasing demand for assistance monitoring and managing Internet Safety, gaming and handheld device attraction, it is prudent to take a look outside New Canaan for a national perspective that offers families additional tools to enhance their family technology plan.”
Marje Monroe is a clinical social worker and educator with over 25 years of experience working in schools. As a dean of students, director of residential life, director of counseling, teacher, and dorm parent, Marje has worked tirelessly with children and teens to promote healthy development, both socially and emotionally. Today, Marje is the author of three books on technology safety, continues to speak nationally on Technology Safety and is currently the director of wellness at LaLumiere School in Indiana.
This program is offered free-of-charge, thanks to our generous donors, and Town of New Canaan Health and Human Services.
