Frances C. Wilson, Thomas Nissley and Patricia Funt Oxman have joined the Board of Governors of the New Canaan Historical Society. The trio will add a wealth of knowledge and experience, with a combined 50-plus years of community involvement in New Canaan, spanning volunteer efforts at many schools, community and charitable organizations.
As a member of the Parents Association Board at St. Luke’s School, Wilson co-chaired the 2016 Spring Gathering fundraiser, and is actively involved with the National Charity League, Boy Scout Troop 70, the New England Academy of Dance and St. Aloysius Church – among others. The Wilson family, following their son’s VFW-sponsored project cataloging veterans of Lakeview Cemetery, updates records annually and helps to organize volunteers to place flags and wreaths on graves on Memorial Day and at Christmas.
Nissley spearheaded and was the ultimate lead investor and savior of the Save 8 Ferris campaign that preserved one of New Canaan’s iconic and oldest homes. As a board member of the CT Trust for Historic Preservation and advisor to the New Canaan Preservation Alliance, he pursues his passion for preservation, from the town’s earliest homes to the modern movement. A local realtor and family therapist, Nissley is also a former Presbyterian Associate Minister.
Oxman, the daughter of Candid Camera creator Allen Funt, has had a lifelong passion for the arts and antiques. An antiques dealer by trade, she has been sharing her knowledge with the community and as a Historical Society member – creating a ‘grandfather’ section of books at the West School library, lecturing on antiques, leading cemetery tours and an integral part the “Seeing Red” exhibit, along with serving on several committees. Her passion for the arts is reflected in years of active volunteer involvement with the Summer Theatre of New Canaan and the NHCS drama program, and shared through 12 years as a Girl Scout leader.
