New Canaan Library welcomes bestselling author Nadia Hashimi for two days of book talks for both adults and students on Oct. 19-20. Hashimi, author of the international bestseller, The Pearl That Broke Its Shell, has just released a new adult novel, A House Without Windows, as well as a critically acclaimed first young adult novel, One Half From the East.

The library will hold an adult author talk on Oct. 20 and has arranged for a special presentation at Saxe Middle School for all students on Oct. 19.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, Hashimi will appear at the library, to introduce her life and work and speak about her many roles and experiences. As an American of Afghan heritage, parent of four, author and pediatrician, she will speak about her latest novel as well as her experiences as a writer, healthcare professional and advocate for women and refugees.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a light reception. Her latest novel, A House Without Windows, is the story of Zeba, an ordinary Afghan housewife and mother of four, who’s been arrested after her husband is found brutally murdered in the courtyard of their home.

The author will hold a Q&A session at the conclusion of her talk. Copies of A House Without Windows and her other novels will be available for purchase at the library event, courtesy of Elm Street Books. Register for this event online at newcanaanlibrary.org.

In its first ever author-talk partnership, the library has worked with Saxe Middle School administrators and the PTC to create an exciting opportunity for all Saxe Middle School students to hear Hashimi speak at two special assemblies during the school day. She will discuss her new YA book, One Half from the East, and describe the journey of a writer and share cultural perspectives of life in Afghanistan.

Starting this week, Elm Street Books will offer copies of One Half from the East and, for every book that is sold, 10% of the pre-tax price will be given as a donation to the Saxe PTC.
