The Ram Council will hold its second annual Celebration of Substance Free New Canaan Teens at the high school, Wednesday, May 4, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Wagner Room.
The celebration will include a community forum panel and is open to the public.
Ram Council President Joyce Sixsmith said, “There will be exciting speakers, member presentations and most importantly breakout sessions to plan as a community for next steps.”
The panelists include keynote speaker Molly Ashcroft from the Westport House, Vince Benevento from Causeway Collaborative and Maud Purcell from Life Solutions of Darien.
Eighty-one New Canaan High School students are members of the Ram Council and have taken a pledge to remain substance free.
“My hope for this event is that more parents, teens and community professionals from New Canaan attend to learn about the Ram Council Foundation, its mission to promote substance free living and other healthy decision making for teens and to become more involved to help us expand,” Sixsmith said.
New Canaan First Selectman Rob Mallozzi III said, “It is a wonderful opportunity to reward all of those kids who made a real effort to have a substance-free high school experience. We’ll be there to cheer them on and congratulate them.”
Iris Maclean from Newport Academy said, “Teens feel that everyone gets high and this is giving them the opportunity to know that everybody does not get high.”
