The Charter Revision Commission will hold a public hearing on its draft report Wednesday, April 13, where the public is invited to sound off on any of the commission’s recommended changes to the Town government’s constitution.
The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. in the Town Meeting Room in Town Hall.
The commission’s Draft Report, released April 5, is available by clicking here, at the Town’s website newcanaan.info, or in hard copy in the office of the Town Clerk.

Highlights of the draft report include recommended changes in the following areas: Number of Town Council candidates that a voter may vote for; Town Council appropriations to the Town budget; First selectman may not be chairman of the appointed Board of Finance but may remain as an ex officio member; Personnel Advisory Board to be renamed Ethics Board.
Proposed additions to the Charter include: Audit Committee, Health and Human Services Commission, Inland Wetlands Commission, and appointment of town attorney.
Directly after the April 13 public hearing, the CRC will deliberate on whether changes should be made to the draft report. Once the CRC creates a final report, it will send it to the Town Council.
The Town Council will then take up the CRC’s recommendations, conduct another public hearing on the proposed Charter revisions, and then decide which, if any, of the changes to put on the November election ballot. New Canaan voters have the ultimate say on any Charter revision.
