
A New Canaan resident received an Achievement Award from STAR, Inc. Lighting the Way which at the recent 66th Annual Meeting.
The resident, a STAR client, Todd McInerney, received the “Jeannette Shivers Award” for service and dedication. McInerney lives at the STAR New Canaan Cottage residential home and works at Grace Farms. The awards were presented at the meeeting by STAR Executive Director Katie Banshaf.
Headquartered in Norwalk and with offices at 15 Cross St, Norwalk and 111 Elm St., New Canaan, STAR annually serves over 600 individuals from birth through their senior years in Fairfield County.
Additional awardees included: The “Community Volunteer of the Year” award presented to Curtis Lueker, Founder and President, My Team Triumph of Westport for his organization’s work in enriching the lives of individuals with disabilities through community athletics; The “Anne O’Callaghan Parent of the Year Award” presented to Kimberly and Jason Greenberg of Westport for their energetic, advocacy and generosity as parents whose child is served by the Birth to Three Program at STAR; and the “Youth Volunteers of the Year” presented to sisters Sophia and Nadia Borjas for their commitment at Sports Buddies every Saturday morning to practice sports with kids impacted by disabilities.
The “Employer of the Year Award” presented to The Maritime Aquarium for their continued relationship in hiring STAR clients; “The Jo Mercede Volunteer of the Year” award presented to Monica Miklos of Norwalk, for her continued dedication of time and talent to STAR; The “Self-Advocacy Award” presented to Norwalk Resident Billy Tolles who celebrated twenty years of employment at the Norwalk Public Library; The “Humanitarian of the Year” presented to DDS Commissioner Jordon Scheff; and the “Corporate Volunteer of the Year” presented to Deloitte LLP for their continued hands-on involvement with STAR.
