Psychologist Kimberly Norton, Ph.D will talk about”telling your story,” and how people can tell their own story, Jan. 14, 2018. Katherine Takayasu, M.D. will discuss the necessity of managing one’s stress levels and the positive impact the practice of meditation can have on stress in New Canaan Library’s first Med Ed series in the new year on Jan. 8.

Psychologist to talk about ‘telling your story’

How does one seize the moment and present yourself in the best possible light when that opportune moment arrives? Telling your story in a succinct and successful way is a vital skill to learn, and Kimberly Norton, Ph.D will explain how when she presents her book, The Story at  on Monday, Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb room of the New Canaan Library. 

When trying to get a coveted job, plum promotion or entrance to a top school, the ability to quickly tell your story in a compelling way is a major advantage, and lets one stand out from the competition. Norton illustrates how to become better storytellers.

Women’s talk checks in on finances for new year

It’s a new year – the perfect time to take a look at one’s finances and plan ahead. Join financial experts Julia Strayer and Liz Maccarone in a roundtable specifically for women called Market Update on Monday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. in the Plaut room.

Join Julia Strayer and Liz Maccarone, for an easy-to-follow discussion on what has been going on in the financial markets.  They will reveal what’s been moving the markets and why, then take a look ahead to see what may happen in 2019. They will also share secrets for positioning your portfolio in these uncertain times.

Doctors to talk about managing stress with meditation

Katherine Takayasu, M.D. will discuss the necessity of managing one’s stress levels and the positive impact the practice of meditation can have on stress in New Canaan Library’s first Med Ed series in the new year on Jan. 8.

Two medical education lectures will be presented in January at the library. Stamford Hospital and New Canaan Library are collaborating to present the Med Ed series, six lectures that mimic the medical school experience by focusing on one specific topic at each lecture.

Physicians from the hospital will explore common health issues, including the prevention and treatment of them.

The first lecture in the series is on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb room. Katherine Takayasu, M.D., M.B.A. will discuss the necessity of managing one’s stress levels, and the positive impact the practice of meditation can have on stress. Dr. Takayasu’s specialty is integrative and family medicine.

The next lecture, Advances in Atrial Fibrillation, is on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

New Canaan Library recently welcomed Fox News Morning Show co-host Brian Kilmeade, left, for a discussion of his book, Andrew Jackson and the Miracle of New Orleans: The Battle That Shaped America’s Destiny. The moderator was former New Canaan First Selectman Rob Mallozzi.
