New Canaan residents are among volunteers who were recognized recently at the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County awards luncheon, held in Ridgefield.

The recognition is for their outstanding commitment, compassion and dedication to volunteer service.
Tammy Ruffin of New Canaan who received an award for her volunteer work at the New Canaan Thrift Shop; Larry Schloss of Wilton for his work as a hospice volunteer; Novella Tortorella of Wilton for her work at the Turnover Shop of Wilton.
Also, Dr. Kesav Nair of Wilton for his work on the agency’s Board of Directors; Kimberly Lewis of Darien and her pet therapy dog, Sophie, and Harvey Kravetz of Fairfield and his pet therapy dog, Scooter for their work as Patient Support Volunteers; Hal Shupack of Westport for his work in development; Connie McCann of Fairfield for her work as an office volunteer.
Nancy Schullman of New Canaan received the agency’s highest honor, The Carol B. Bauer Community Spirit Award for her outstanding service as a hospice volunteer.
“This award was established in honor of Carol Bauer, whose spirit and devotion to volunteerism is unsurpassed in the community,” said Agency CEO Sharon Bradley.
“In the time that she has been volunteering with our agency, Nancy has demonstrated a commitment to helping patients and families at the most vulnerable time in their lives. She has said that visiting sick patients fills her soul. Nancy is a kind and energetic person and we are grateful for her service.”
“Nancy Schullman exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism,” said Carol Bauer, who was present at the awards ceremony.
“It is with deep gratitude that we recognize Nancy for her compassionate contribution to the mission of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.”
