Former New Canaan Police sergeant Jason Kim has left and joined the Weston Police Department. Jason Kim was sworn in for duty in Weston on Aug. 8. He served in New Canaan for 10 years.

Kim was a patrol officer in New Canaan for five years before transitioning to become a school resource officer (SRO) at New Canaan High School. In Dec. 2016, Kim was promoted to sergeant in New Canaan.

“Jason Kim served our Department and Town well for many years. Our loss is certainly Weston’s gain. We wish him well in his new career at Weston PD,” said New Canaan Chief of Police Leon Krolikowski.

When Kim heard there was an opening at the Weston Police Department, he said he jumped at the opportunity to apply.

“I always liked the Weston Police Department and the officers that work there,” said Kim. “I was involved in assisting Weston in a home invasion case [last September] and I saw that the officers were really passionate about their job.”

He said being New Canaan’s SRO changed the way he looked at policing and gave him a mindset that working intensely with the community is the best way to do his job.

“Being an SRO makes you work very hard because people really know you,” said Kim. “They saw you every day. You had to solve problems with people instead of trying to figure things out independently. I think that’s the true community policing mindset and it showcased to me how effective that could be.”
