Advertiser cartoonist shows his craft at Library

Award-winning editorial cartoonist, Doug Smith, demonstrated his best Paul Simon caricature as part of a workshop on his art form held in New Canaan Library’s Curtis Gallery on Thursday evening, July 20.

Smith presented some of his own past favorite New Canaan cartoons to a group of about 15 and handed out exercise sheets for participants to showcase their own creativity.

Smith is the editorial cartoonist for the HAN Network, which includes the New Canaan Advertiser. He has shown his work in Derby, Shelton, Wilton, Trumbull and the Edith Wheeler Library in Monroe.

One particular showing he recalled was a Ridgefield workshop in front of third- through fifth-graders, where President Donald Trump was a popular target for a caricature.
