New Canaan: Author Christina Kelly will speak about her recently published novel Good Karma Thursday, July 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Curtis Gallery.

Retirement is supposed to be a time of ease and rediscovery — but that’s only part of it for Catherine and Ralph. After almost 40 years in New Jersey, the couple and their beloved Boston Terrier Karma are relocating to a serene island off the coast of Georgia for a life of tennis, golf and other pursuits.

But upon their arrival in the Seven Oaks gated community, it becomes apparent that Catherine and Ralph’s visions of retirement couldn’t be more different. As the rift widens, Catherine cannot help but sense her marriage is at risk. Then, she meets recent widower Fred at the dog park, and they embark upon a friendship that could be something more — until she discovers that he’s not quite what he seems.

Kelly is a graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop and an occasional contributor to The New York Times crossword section. A native of Westchester, N.Y., she now lives with her husband in Savannah, Ga. Good Karma is her first novel.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase, courtesy of Elm Street Books. Register at newcanaanlibrary.org.

New Canaan: An author will present his first novel, tonight, July 6, at the New Canaan Library.
