Cara Shattan, daughter of Mark and MyLinh Shattan of New Canaan, has received an appointment to the Class of 2021 at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Shattan graduated from King School in Stamford, on Friday, June 2.

At King, Shattan was inducted into the prestigious Cum Laude Society as a junior, and was the recipient of the Computer Science Award and the Ware Award at Commencement. The Ware Award recognizes valuable contributions in athletics, high academic achievement, thoughtfulness for others, and a sense of responsibility for King.

Shattan was also a four-year varsity player on King’s championship volleyball team and tennis teams. This is the first appointment for a King School student and the School is extremely proud of Cara.

Marnie Sadlowsky, Head of Upper School at King, said, “The entire King Community congratulates Cara on this extraordinary accomplishment. Cara’s contributions to King School, both academically and athletically, will be remembered for years to come. As we know, the United States is currently at war on several fronts. It’s particularly notable, then, that we have one of our own graduates choosing this path in this time in history – a time when graduates from West Point are very likely to fight in and serve on these fronts.”

MyLinh Shattan comments, “We are thrilled that Cara has chosen to attend West Point and continue a family tradition of military service. Secretly, we’re also excited that Cara will finally have to keep her room neat!”

Cara Shattan adds, “I’m very proud to have the honor of attending the United States Military Academy. Although it is intimidating that I report in less than a month, I can’t see myself anywhere else.”

The U. S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year, co-educational, federal, liberal arts college located 50 miles north of New York City. It was founded in 1802 as America’s first college of engineering and continues today as one of our nation’s premier leader-development institutions, consistently ranked among top colleges in the country. Its mission remains constant – to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the nation as an officer in the United States Army.

Cara was appointed by her mother, MyLinh Shattan who is West Point’s Congressional District Coordinator and Field Force Representative, West Point Admissions, and United States Military Academy Class of 1991.
