After an extensive search process, Dr. Bryan Luizzi, New Canaan Public Schools superintendent, announced the appointment of David Gusitsch as a new assistant principal of New Canaan High School. Gusitsch replaces Dr. Veronica LeDuc, who is retiring this year.

David Gusitsch brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, according to the New Canaan Public Schools. He has over a decade of experience serving as an educator and administrator in Westport, including serving one year as an interim assistant principal at Coleytown Middle School. In his most recent position, David supervised 30 teachers district-wide as Westport’s Health and Physical Education Curriculum Coordinator, and has also served as Department chairman, taught Health and Physical Education classes at Staples High School, assistant coached several high school teams, including varsity football, and varsity boys and girls swim teams, and secured a $1.2 million grant to enhance and improve the district’s health and physical education programs.

“We thank Dr. LeDuc for her outstanding service to New Canaan, and congratulate her on her decision to retire this year,” said Luizzi. “At the same time, we are thrilled to have identified and hired a dedicated and talented professional who will continue the school’s great work in the spirit of continuous improvement and focused on helping every student excel throughout his or her time at NCHS.”

Gusitsch earned an Educational Leadership degree from Sacred Heart University. He has a Master of Science in Sport Management from Western Illinois University, and a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education with Coaching from Central Connecticut State University. He has served on the executive board of The Connecticut Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and on the Executive Advisory Council of The Connecticut Association of Administrators of Health and Physical Education. Luizzi also thanked the teachers, administrators, and parents for their excellent work as the interview committee, which was comprised of 15 people overall. Additionally, he thanked Gary Kass, director of Human Resources, and Gary’s entire staff for all of their efforts coordinating and organizing the search process.

Gusitsch will begin as assistant principal at NCHS on July 1.
