For The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sterling Guynn has returned home to New Canaan after serving a two-year mission in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Hailey Wheeler has been called to serve an 18-month mission in Oslo, Norway.
On Sunday, May 21, at 9 a.m., Guynn and Hailey will address the New Canaan congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at their church on South Avenue across from the entrance to Waveny Park. The public is invited and welcome.
Guynn was a 2014 graduate of New Canaan High School where he excelled academically and played on the varsity football and volleyball teams. He completed his freshman year at Brigham Young University prior to leaving for Brazil.
Guynn spent six weeks learning Portuguese at the LDS Missionary Training Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil prior to traveling to Rio de Janeiro. In Rio, he lived 24/7 with native-speaking Brazilians or other Latin American companions. They spent most of their waking hours together serving and teaching people in the favellas and other neighborhoods of Rio.
He plans to return to Brigham Young University at the end of June to continue his university studies.
Wheeler will enter the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah on June 7, where she will spend six weeks in intensive language training before departing to her field of service. Hailey spent four months living in Oslo when she was just one year old; thus, she sees this inspired call to serve the people of Norway as a homecoming of sorts.
Hailey is the oldest of four children. She and her family moved to New Canaan from Utah in 2013 to begin her sophomore year. She is a 2016 graduate of New Canaan High School where she was captain of the girls’ volleyball team. She recently completed her freshman year at Brigham Young University.

One person returns from a mission to Brazil, and one is set to serve. Both will speak at the Church of Latter- day Saints this Sunday, May 21. Sterling Guynn.
