The Summer Theatre of New Canaan, Connecticut’s premiere professional summer theatre, will hold its annual Benefit Gala – Music of the Night – on May 13 at Woodway Country Club in Darien. Movie, stage and TV legend Jane Powell will be this season’s honoree. “We will be celebrating her life’s commitment to the arts and as one who has inspired performing artists and musical theatre in Connecticut and across America for over 60 years,” said Melody Meitrott Libonati, artistic director of the summer theatre and a Broadway actress herself.
Always an exciting evening, the Gala will also feature Broadway star and veteran Mark Jacoby who was a former Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera. Also joining Jacoby will be Jasmine Gorslin who recently starred in Webber’s new sequel, Love Never Dies. MusicalSpecial appearance by stars of this summer’s musical Singin’ in the Rain, will perform as will the Theatre Children Choir from the Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan.

Jane Powell, who resides in Wilton, Conn. and New York City has starred in over 20 movies. She partnered with Fred Astaire, co-starred with Jeanette MacDonald, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter Lawford and starred opposite Howard Keel in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Powell was featured in 23 National and Broadway shows including Irene, I Do! I Do! and South Pacific.
In addition to Singin’ in the Rain, The Summer Theatre of New Canaan will produce on weekends for young families The Dancing Princesses, a world premiere, and The Adventures of Robin Hood, where two actors perform all roles. The evening will support the theatre’s award-winning education programs that include The DramaRamas created for children with special needs, a Junior Company for middle school students, a High School Theatre Intensive and their professional College Internships.
