Rep. Himes to give Washington update here

With a full roster of issues before the U.S. Congress running from tax reform, to setting the nation’s budget priorities, to repairing the nation’s infrastructure, to financial reform, to cybersecurity, and the Affordable Care Act, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT-4th) will give New Canaan residents his perspective and a status report April 12 in the Town Hall meeting room beginning at 2 p.m.

Part of the monthly speaker series sponsored by the New Canaan Democratic Town Committee, the session is open to all residents.

Now in his fourth term representing New Canaan, most of Fairfield County and some of New Haven County, Himes has been at the center of many of the key issues as a member of the House Committee on Financial Services and ranking member of the NSA Cybersecurity Subcommittee on Intelligence. With that background, Himes will also be able to speak to the U.S. trade deficit and its impact on the economy, the U.S. deficit and the Affordable Care Act.

Billed as a progress report on the first three months of the Trump Administration, Himes can speak to how those national issues ultimately affect New Canaan residents and what his focus will be in the coming months.

Before being elected to Congress, Himes was a vice president at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he worked extensively in Latin America and headed the bank’s telecommunications technology group. A Rhodes Scholar, Himes attended Harvard University and Oxford University in England where he continued his studies of Latin America.
