Rick Franco will be honored for his many years of community service at the 57th annual Gridiron dinner on April 19 and April 21 at the Country Club of New Canaan.
Each year the Gridiron Club of New Canaan celebrates a member of the community who has set an example of community spirit and leadership. On two evenings next month, the Gridiron Club will honor Rick as the ‘Fall Guy’ at the 57th annual New Canaan Gridiron Club dinner and roast. The evening will feature dinner and live entertainment, as a group of businessmen-by-day New Canaanites shed all shame to sing and dance their way through the life and times of the ‘Fall Guy’.
Wednesday, April 19, is Gridiron’s traditional Ladies Night, but all are welcome; Friday, April 21, is the traditional Men’s Night, with Rick Franco as the Guest of Honor.
A lifelong resident of New Canaan, Franco has given generously to the community and the Franco family has been part of the town’s fabric for more than a century. Rick served for 23 years as Parking Commissioner, and has been an active member of the Democratic Town Committee for over 20 years. As co-owner and connoisseur at Francos Wine Merchants, the landmark store on Elm Street, Franco has sponsored or supported hundreds of charity events in New Canaan over the past 35 years. An active member of St. Aloysius RC Church, Rick served graciously as head usher for 30 years.
Rick’s life story on the stage is sure to provide entertaining and informative background to all who know and love him, and he looks forward to celebrating with friends old and new. The Gridiron Club will make a donation in honor of the Fall Guy to a charity of his choosing, and Rick has chosen St. Catherine Academy in Fairfield, a school for children with special needs, to be the 2017 recipient.
