Jackson Oehmler, a 15-year-old sophomore at New Canaan High School has spent the last year working on a screenplay of a survivalist tale about a schizophrenic teenager and his family after their private jet crashes in the Atlantic Ocean. He has launched a Kickstarter campaign to turn the screenplay into a film with a fundraising goal of $4,000. With Kickstarter, you have 30 days to achieve 100% of your goal or you lose the funding, so Oehmler has been actively soliciting donations to meet his target date of March 28.

Oehmler has been interested in filmmaking for several years and has produced 10 films, two of which have won local awards. He also has a YouTube channel which has received over 11,000 views. Last summer, he secured an internship in NYC with Scheme Engine, a film production company owned by Jay-Z and plans to return in June for a second summer. He said, “It was a really great experience. I was able to handle the equipment and was on-set as films were being produced. One of the most important things I learned was how to develop a film budget which was really helpful in determining the funding needed for my film.”
