State slipping?
The poor state of Connecticut. A couple of observers noted that the town roads were plowed cleaner and more quickly than the state-plowed routes 123, 124 and 106 that run through town.
Middle of the pack
Seldom does the school district want a statistic anywhere but near the top of the leader board. But when it comes to per-pupil spending, the middle of the pack is just fine. New Canaan’s per-pupil expenditure, at $4,263, is fifth in a list of nine area towns. It’s slightly less than Darien at $4,859 and looks particularly frugal when compared to top-ranking Greenwich at $8,634.
Schools on Winter Break
New Canaan public schools are closed for a week and a day for students beginning Friday, Feb. 17. The break runs through Friday, Feb. 24. School resumes Monday, Feb. 27.
Presidents Day
Town offices and others will be closed Monday, Feb. 20 for the federal holiday.
Pastore party
Testimonials and tributes, loads of laughs, large crowd, great food and drink pleased all who gathered for DPW’s Mike Pastore.
