Treetops Chamber Music Society (Treetops CMS) is kicking off the new year at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan, with the JACK Quartet, the American ‘rock star’ new music string quartet. The evening’s program begins the organization’s 2017 series of diverse musical explorations into American music and Beethoven’s late string quartets.
“Some of the music in this program is cutting edge and freshly acclaimed, such as Derek Bermel’s Intonations, a 92nd Street Y commission that premiered this past May at the beginning of the 2016 NY Phil Biennial,” says Oskar Espina Ruiz, Treetops CMS artistic director.
The program also includes two outstanding American women composers: Ruth Crawford Seeger, an influential modernist, and Julia Wolfe, winner of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize in Music and the 2016 MacArthur Fellow in Music. And will conclude with a classic from overseas – Iannis Xenakis’ Tetras.
The concert will be performed on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Carriage Barn Arts Center, Waveny Park, 681 South Ave., New Canaan.
Tickets are available at treetopscms.org and at the box office at 203-539-0220. Tickets are $45 for adults, $20 for students, and $5 for children (ages 5 to 15); discounts are available to subscribers.
