Gardner Read, New Canaan High School Class of 2016, will soon leave for a two-year mission in Taipei, Taiwan for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will share his farewell thoughts at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, at the church (Mormon), 682 South Ave. The public is invited to attend.
Gardner was a captain of the 2015 state championship football team at NCHS, was in the honors program and is an Eagle Scout. He has completed two semesters at Brigham Young University and will enter the Missionary Training Center in Provo, where he will begin a Mandarin language immersion program. After nine weeks of training, he will travel to Taiwan to begin his service.
Gardner is the son of Keith and Sally Read.
