A celebration of the priestly life of Monsignor William J. Scheyd will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20. As he retires after 52 years of service to the priesthood and his community, a Mass of Thanksgiving will be held at 11:30 a.m. A reception in his honor will follow in the St. Aloysius School Gym in New Canaan to which all are invited. Scheyd has been at the parish for 14 years and will leave his assignment on Dec. 31. He has accepted a position of Vicar of Senior Priests to continue his service to the Diocese of Bridgeport. His successor is the Reverend Robert M. Kinnally who will step in as the new Pastor immediately.
The Knights of Columbus will be on hand this weekend with the Confirmation students of St. Aloysius to collect filled grocery bags Saturday evening through Sunday evening, Nov. 19-20 in a truck parked in the back parking lot of the church.
The annual Love Your Neighbor Food Drive, which benefits the New Canaan Food Pantry is seeking donations of canned chicken, coffee, cooking oils, powdered and/or canned milk, mayonnaise, canned stew, canned hash, cereal, bar soap and toothpaste. Grocery gift cards are also needed. High school teens are needed to unload the food donations at the New Canaan Food Pantry on Sunday, Nov. 20 from 3:15-3:45 pm. and 6-7 p.m. and take the turkeys over to St. Vincent de Paul in Norwalk on Sunday at 3 p.m. High school teens who can help are asked to sign up at signupgenius.com, locating the sign up under youth@starcc.com.
In front of the church, donors are asked to place frozen turkeys that will be taken to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Turkey Truck will be parked in front of the church from Saturday, Nov. 19 until 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21.
On Monday, Nov. 21, all ladies are invited to gather for Mass and Rosary at 9 a.m., followed by brunch in Stapleton Hall where Reverend Frank Hoffman will present the talk, Mary in the Liturgy and the Devotions of the Church. Hoffman is currently the Pastor at St. John’s in Darien. The morning is hosted by Our Lady’s Guild.
Looking ahead, a Mass of Thanksgiving will be offered on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. The festive liturgical celebration will bring together the Cherub, Youth and Adult Choirs to start the day giving thanks.
