The New Canaan YMCA introduced its new sports director, Will Schwartztein. He joins the Y having graduated from Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA with a Bachelor’s degree in sports management.

Schwartzstein grew up in Norwalk and began his basketball career at Norwalk High School. He went on to play four years of collegiate basketball at Emory & Henry. Upon graduation, he played for a semi-pro team in the Washington D.C. area. Schwartzstein continued to grow his love for the game when he moved to South America to pursue his dream of playing professional basketball. He was recruited and named to the rosters of teams in Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia. After an exciting basketball career he decided to return to the United States to share his passion and teach the sport to children.

“Will’s excitement for basketball and youth development makes him an excellent choice to lead the Y’s Sports Department,” says Joann Cerretani, vice president of operations. “We are thrilled to have him lead the popular Y-Ball program this winter and are sure he will add a lot to the experience for both participants and coaches.”
