Dr. Seddon Savage, medical director of the Chronic Pain and Recovery Center at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, participated on a panel at the Clinton Foundation’s Health Matters Initiative Prescription Drug Abuse Town Hall: Building a Community of Support on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Town Hall initiative brought together leading individuals and organizations from the health, research, and grassroots sectors to share innovative concepts and solutions aimed at empowering communities to address the impact of the prescription drug abuse epidemic.
The event was structured to elevate conversation around the epidemic in two ways – by presenting a panel discussion composed of thought leaders representing key constituent groups affected by the epidemic and by facilitating conversation among speakers and attendees through guided group discussions.
Patrick J. Kennedy, Former U.S. Representative (D-RI) and founder of the Kennedy Forum, was the keynote speaker. Kennedy is a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the nation’s leading political voice on mental illness, addiction and brain diseases.
Dr. Savage was joined on the panel by Sean Clarkin, EVP, research and external relations, Partnership for Drug-Free Kids; Dr. Rhonda Mattox, physician, producer, community-based leader, policy consultant; Susan Pitman, executive director, Drug Free Duval and David Sheff, author of the New York Times bestseller Clean: Overcoming Addiction and Ending America’s Greatest Tragedy.
“I feel greatly honored to have been invited to participate with this vibrant group of thought leaders and to engage with the Clinton Health Matters Initiative which has a track record of success in achieving important public health goals”, said Dr. Savage. “I am confident that the ideas and actions emanating from this meeting will make tangible differences for individuals and communities struggling with opioid misuse.”
