The American Heart Association (AHA) has announced that Fairfield resident, Bob Conklin will serve once again as the volunteer chairperson of the Fairfield County Heart Walk and 5K Run event, set for Saturday, Oct. 8, at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. The Heart Walk and 5K Run is the AHA’s biggest regional event with nearly 1,000 participants walking to support AHA programs and research.
Conklin, the New York Metro Assurance Leader at PwC, is a long-time American Heart Association volunteer, serving in many AHA volunteer leadership roles including chair of the highly successful Wall Street Run & Heart Walk in NYC. He is a member of the AHA’s Fairfield County Board of Directors.
As event chair, Conklin will appeal to local businesses and community leaders to sponsor and form teams to join the Heart Walk and support the AHA’s life-saving mission.
“The American Heart Association’s impact on the health of Americans and Connecticut residents, is compelling. The AHA supports groundbreaking research, development, and technologies; new legislation; youth education; and so many other incredible initiatives. I feel very grateful to be part of such a wonderful organization,” said Conklin.
The Heart Walk is part of a year-round program to help employees get healthier. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer in the U.S., and physical inactivity doubles the risk. The AHA supports organizations with their workplace wellness goals through the Workplace Health Solutions initiative.
