Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bryan Luizzi received a one-year extension to his 2015-2018 contract with a unanimous vote at the June 6 Board of Education meeting. Luizzi’s contract will end in 2019 as Connecticut permits a three-year maximum for superintendent contracts.
Luizzi will finish the first year of his current three-year contract at the end of this school year. Luizzi’s new agreement will run — 2017 to 2019.
“We’ve been fortunate, in New Canaan, to have a series of strong superintendents,” Board of Education member Penny Rashin said at the June 6 Board of Education meeting.
Luizzi served as New Canaan High School principal for three years before taking over for Dr. Mary Kolek as interim superintendent of schools in July 2014. Luizzi dropped the interim title in October 2014.
“We would like to have you [Luizzi] steering the ship for New Canaan Public Schools for many years to come,” Board of Education Chairman Dionna Carlson said to Luizzi at the June 6 meeting.
“I’m so blessed to have such an amazing team of central office administrators, amazing principals and assistant principals, and outstanding teachers,” Luizzi said at the June 6 meeting.
