New Canaan Library announces that after 16 years of directing and enriching children’s services, Rose Marie Zaharek will retire in early June, 2016.
“The library and New Canaan families have had the great pleasure and good fortune to have such an accomplished and caring individual as Rose Marie leading our children’s team and services,” says Lisa Oldham, executive director. “I’m sure I speak not only for the Library staff but for the entire community when I say how much Rose Marie will be missed.”
“The time I have spent at New Canaan Library has been a wonderful journey,” said Zaharek. “It has been both a joy and a privilege to work with so many great families over the years, and to have had the support of my excellent team.”
The Library and Children’s Room staff invite all to bid a fond farewell to Zaharek on Saturday, May 21, between 1:30-3 p.m. Stop by to say goodbye, sign a card and enjoy light refreshments.
Zaharek joined New Canaan Library as manager of children’s services in 2000. She came to New Canaan from the Danbury Public Library, where she spent 10 years as coordinator of children’s programming. Prior to that, Ms. Zaharek taught elementary school in the Torrington, CT public school system. Among her accomplishments, she created the school first reading department, and designed and taught one of the country’s first Head Start summer programs for underprivileged children.
