Rumors began to fly the weekend before Christmas that New Canaan native Max Pacioretty, the leading goal scorer for the Montreal Canadiens, was on the trading block. Then that Monday, he became a father, news that helped make our story, “Amid trade rumors, New Canaan’s Pacioretty is a new father” (Dec. 23, by Joshua Fisher) the 16th most viewed story on NCAdvertiser.com in 2013.
Pacioretty’s wife, Katia, gave birth to their first child, Lorenzo Pacioretty, on Monday, Dec. 23.
While no move has been made as of Monday morning, Dec. 30, teams rumored to be interested in Pacioretty are the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers. And the New York Rangers have recently been mentioned among possible trade partners for the Canadiens.
But most hockey insiders say it would take a lot for the Habs to move the man who led them in scoring the past two seasons — particularly within the Eastern Conference.
The next big news for Pacioretty could be if he makes the U.S. Olympic hockey team for the upcoming Winter Games in Russia.
