Republicans name delegates to state conventions

The following New Canaan registered Republicans have volunteered and been accepted to be delegates to this year’s upcoming Republican State, Senate and House conventions to nominate Republican candidates for State and National offices, according to New Canaan Republican Town Committee President Pat Donovan.

Nine delegates from New Canaan will be going to the State Convention on Monday, May 9, at the Hartford Civic Center. At the State Convention they will nominate a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate to challenge incumbent Democrat Richard Blumenthal. Currently, 2nd District State Rep. Dan Carter and Stamford businessman August Wolf are seeking the Republican nomination.

In addition, the delegates are expected to nominate 135th District State Representative John T. Shaban as the Republican candidate for the Connecticut 4th District to run against Democrat Congressman Jim Himes. Representative Shaban is running unopposed for the nomination.

New Canaan’s nine delegates are: Wade Eyerly, Mary Anne Marcella, Patricia Nietsch, Robert Avery, Patrick Donovan, Janice Schaefer, Cristina A. Ross, Nicholas Williams, and Kevin Moynihan.

Four delegates will attend the 26th State Senate District Convention on May 11, at the Trackside Teen Center in Wilton. There, they are expected to nominate incumbent State Senator Toni Boucher for a fifth term to the State Senate.

The 26th State Senatorial District includes the communities of New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Weston, Westport and Wilton.

The delegates are: George Harvey, Mary Anne Marcella, William Gardner, and Gene Goodman.

Four Delegates will attend the 36th State Senate District Convention on May 10, 2016 at the Greenwich Teen Center. There, they are expected to nominate incumbent State Senator L. Scott Franz for a fifth term to the State Senate.

The 36th state Senatorial District includes the communities of New Canaan, Greenwich and Stamford.

The delegates are: James McLaughlin, Patrick Donovan, Robert Avery, and Kevin Moynihan.

Seven Delegates will attend the 125th State House District Convention on May 16, at the New Canaan Police Headquarters. There, they are expected to nominate incumbent State Representative Tom O’Dea for a third term to the State House Assembly.

The 125th House District includes the communities of New Canaan and Wilton.

The delegates are: Mary Anne Marcella, Maria Weingarten, Patrick Donovan, William Gardner, Kevin Moynihan, Denise Lucarelli, E. Irene Barrack

One Delegate will attend the 142nd State House District Convention on May 16, in Norwalk.

He is expected to nominate incumbent State Representative Fred Wilms for a second term to the State House Assembly.

The 142th House District includes the communities of New Canaan and Norwalk.

The delegate is Gene Goodman.
