Perhaps the Charter Revision Commission binge watched episodes of the NBC tv show Parks and Recreation before Thursday’s meeting. The CRC unanimously recommended adding the letter “s” to “park” in every reference of the New Canaan Park and Recreation Commission throughout the entire Town Charter.
New Canaan and Redding are two of the 23 municipalities in Fairfield County which exclusively use “Park and Recreation” rather than “Parks and Recreation.”
“We have multiple parks,” Charter Revision member Penny Young exclaimed. Charter Revision Chairman Dave Hunt said, “We do have more than one[park],”confirming Young’s observation.
Town Attorney Ira Bloom remarked, “It’s going to be Parks and Recreation … that’s tomorrow’s headline.”
The CRC will provide a draft report after the April 4 meeting which will include the language of all commissions, committees, etc. to be revised in the Town Charter. The commission is tentatively scheduled to hold a public hearing April 13, which will give the public an opportunity to provide input before revisions to the charter are submitted to the Town Council.
All Charter Revision meetings are open to the public, and video of past or present meetings is available online at nctv79.org. For access to all public records regarding Charter Revision, see Town Clerk Claudia Weber in her office at Town Hall.
