Laurel House, Inc. will be holding its annual Champions for Recovery Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 2, at the Stamford Yacht Club. It will be support Laurel House’s work in providing critical programs and services to those living with mental illness and to their families.
Laurel House will honor Sigurd H. Ackerman, M.D., Silver Hill Hospital’s president and medical director, as their 2016 Champion for Recovery. Dr. Ackerman is being recognized for his work in the field of psychiatric research and treatment. During his 13 years of leadership at Silver Hill Hospital, Dr. Ackerman has been instrumental in the development of new programs for the treatment of psychotic, mood, eating and substance use disorders.
Laurel House will also be recognizing five Town Champions for their work, advocacy and outreach, making their towns better places in which to live and work. The 2016 Town Champions are:
- New Canaan, Judy Bentley, advocate for senior healthcare and housing
- Stamford/Westport, Ross Burkhardt, President and CEO, New Neighborhoods, Inc.
- Greenwich, William W. Galvin III, church and community leader, Family ReEntry, Vice Chair
- Norwalk, David Levinson, Ph.D., President, Norwalk Community College
- Darien, Susan Marks, Darien Board of Selectmen
