The presentation takes you through a visual tour from the eyes of a field-grade officer and the associated challenges and opportunities that exist in building relationships and intelligence sources throughout Afghanistan.  While the tour was almost seven years ago with a different mission and presence than the coalition forces have today, many dynamics and questions remain relevant to any foreign presence in the region.  Topics that weave through the presentation include the role of tribes, the role of neighboring countries, the role of drugs, and the role Afghanistan’s history plays on its perception of foreign forces.
