Jill Castle, registered dietitian and childhood nutrition expert, has launched a pediatric nutrition private practice to help children and their families navigate common and more serious nutrition challenges.

“My goal is to help families raise healthy kids with nutritious food, positive strategies, and simple systems that make feeding children a breeze,” said Castle, a mother of four who lives in town.

She guides families through any nutritional concern with research-based, practical solutions tailored to the individual child or teen.

Clients include parents who are looking for expert advice on feeding their child, picky or sensory-based eaters, children and teens with weight concerns such as overweight, underweight or eating disorders, and young athletes seeking to eat for improved sports performance.

Castle has expertise in: pediatric weight management (overweight/obesity), eating disorders, food allergies, sports nutrition, general feeding, ADD/ADHD, picky eating, poor growth/underweight, nutrient deficiencies and more.

“Childhood nutrition challenges are becoming more and more common,” said Castle. “Anemia, constipation, high cholesterol, weight issues, and food sensitivities are just some of the areas where families need guidance and support. That’s exactly what I do in my practice—help kids get on a healthier and more functional track so they thrive and overcome their nutrition and health challenges.”

Castle is a 25-year veteran in the field of pediatric nutrition, having worked in Boston-area hospitals and in private practice. She is the author of two childhood nutrition books, pens a popular blog, and speaks on topics in childhood nutrition across the country.

Castle’s second book, Eat Like A Champion: Performance Nutrition for Your Young Athlete, is a sports nutrition resource for young athletes aged 8 to 18 and their parents.

Eat Like a Champion showcases what young athletes need to eat, from calories, carbs and protein to meals, snacks and hydration. It answers the most common questions of youth sports nutrition such as: What should my athlete eat before competition? What should be eaten after a hard workout? Which supplements are okay and not okay to use? And, it tackles the tough issues of weight problems, medical conditions, and navigating the food environment in youth sports.

“Who could be better equipped to offer helpful nutrition advice to parents of young athletes than a registered sports dietitian who has raised four active kids?” sports nutritionist Dr. Nancy Clark said of Castle’s book. “In Eat Like a Champion, Jill serves easily digested, practical information to guide parents and coaches in helping their young athletes to eat like champions.”

On her website, Castle offers an e-book, The Calcium Handbook, which covers over 100 ways to grow healthy bones for your child.

“Leading the nutrient list for kids is calcium and that’s what this book is all about,” she said. “Calcium is best known for its role in bone growth and health, but there are many other functions for calcium in the growing body. All children, from baby to teen, need a regular and consistent source of calcium in their diet.

“That’s why I wrote this little book. To set the record straight about calcium for kids—what calcium does, why it’s needed, and where you can find it in food. I offer up practical solutions for matching your child’s calcium needs, so it’s easy for you to succeed. And if you can’t achieve your goals with food, I help you with a back-up plan—supplementation.”

Castle’s first book, Fearless Feeding: How to Raise Healthy Eaters from High Chair to High School, is a popular resource for parents and professionals.

Castle is currently booking appointments for families with infants, toddlers, children, and teens at her New Canaan office. Call 615-943-1960 or email her at Jill@JillCastle.com. For more information, got to JillCastle.com.
