The 11th annual New Canaan Chamber of Commerce Holiday Stroll took over downtown Friday night. Elm Street glowed with holiday lights and the faces of all who gathered.

Friday’s festivities included, the lighting of the trees, the arrival of Santa Claus, carol singing, and live entertainment from various musical groups, all while stores downtown stayed open late for New Canaanites to shop.

In addition, Waffle Station provided waffles to Strollers, and the Kiwanis Club of New Canaan provided s’mores and a fire pit on the corner of Elm Street and South Avenue. Other holiday refreshments were served, such as cookies from the Changing Room & Allure, festive-flavored popcorn from Jack Wills, and Secret Santa goodie bags from Elm Street Books.

Business

The businesses of downtown New Canaan profited in part by staying open late for the Stroll, but a majority of owners told the Advertiser, they profited more from bringing the community together.

Dorothy Mann owner Dorothy Mann said, “We have lovely people that come by and say hello; It’s not necessarily to be like a big huge sales night kind of thing. It’s really just for people to stop in.” — photo by Rich Durazzo, Jr.

Earth Garden owner Nancy Gorkin said, “A lot of people that don’t normally shop in New Canaan come to this event; it gives us more exposure.” Gorkin continued, “It gives us a chance to meet people we don’t normally get to see during the week.” — photo by Rich Durazzo, Jr.
