New Canaan’s Robert J. Femia, MD, MBA, has been named chair of the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center effective Nov. 1. Dr. Femia will replace Lewis R. Goldfrank, MD, who will continue to serve as the Herbert W. Adams Professor of Emergency Medicine.  Considered by many a founder of modern emergency medicine, Dr. Goldfrank will remain focused on improving access to care, enhancing public health and advancing medical humanitarianism—both here in New York and around the globe.

Dr. Femia joined NYU Langone in 2011 with nearly 25 years of experience in emergency medicine. He previously served as the executive vice chair of emergency medicine, where he oversaw several multidisciplinary initiatives and led the design and implementation of numerous innovative programs that have strengthened operations, patient care and safety, outcome metrics, financial performance, and external relationships.

“Dr. Femia brings a depth and breadth of experience and expertise in emergency medicine and program development, making him the ideal person to lead our already stellar department to even greater heights,” said Robert Grossman, MD, the Saul J. Farber Dean and CEO of NYU Langone. “I am confident that under his leadership, the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine will continue to provide exceptional clinical care and training for the next generation of physicians.”
