A local artist facing a “World Without Words” will display her mixed media and collages.
Artist Debbie Grzelecki’s inspiration and creativity are considered “therapy” art work, driven by a diagnosis of PPA. The show’s title “World Without Words” illustrates her affliction with Non-fluent Agrammatic Primary Progressive Aphasia, a neurological disorder that robs one’s language skills.
While Grzelecki’s speech is limited, she has found her voice again through her art.
The exhibit will be held at the New Canaan Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate Office at 98 Park Street from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019. The event is open to the public free of charge, and complimentary appetizers and refreshments will be served.
None of the works will be for sale; this is just a show for all to witness how a devastating diagnosis can unlock a world of creativity, an announcement said.
Grzelecki has raised her two grown daughters in New Canaan and has been a resident for more than three decades. She was also the head fundraiser for the Parent-Teacher Council of East School, head of the Little Newcomers Club and a Girl Scout leader. She, her partner, Tom, and her parents still enjoy living in the Next Station To Heaven.
She is a graduate of Gettysburg College, where she majored in art history. This was the beginning of a passion for artistic creativity. Prior to retirement, she worked as a financial analyst at major research marketing firms.
