The New Canaan Library welcomes author, and Emmy Award-winning CBS Sunday Morning Correspondent Bill Geist, and his son,  William (Willie) Geist, co-anchor of MSNBC’s Morning Joe and anchor of Sunday Today with Willie Geist, on Sunday, May 19, at 3 p.m. in the library’s Adrian Lamb Room. Bill will present his latest book, Lake of the Ozarks: My Surreal Summers in a Vanishing America. Those interested can register to attend, online at newcanaanlibrary.org.

Before there was “tourism” there were down to earth vacation places like Lake of the Ozarks – a paradise for middle-class Midwestern families on vacation, complete with man-made beaches, Hillbilly Mini Golf, and feathered rubber tomahawks. This was the setting for author Bill Geist’s high school and college summers, working at Arrowhead Lodge-a small resort owned by his bombastic uncle-holding down jobs cesspool attendant to bellhop. It was also the place that shaped him, and upon his reflection, a transformative experience that turned him into the adult he is today, and had far-reaching influences on his writing and career. With warmth and humor, and in his unique way, Geist shares anecdotes and wisdom that evoke a desire for ‘the good old days.”

Bill Geist is the New York Times bestselling author of Little League Confidential, The Big Five-Oh, and Way off the Road. He has won 6 Emmys and was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his hundreds of singular, informative and entertaining pieces for CBS Sunday Morning. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his services as a combat photographer in Vietnam. He lives in New York City with his wife, Jody.
