Robert E. Mallozzi III, senior vice president and director of business development and government affairs at Bankwell, has been named to the board of directors of the Western Connecticut Economic Development District.

The Western Connecticut Economic Development District (WCEDD) guides the implementation of the region’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The group is a mix of public and private sector stakeholders and influencers in the region. Bankwell’s inclusion marks the only Connecticut chartered banking institution amongst this group. The purpose of the WCEDD includes setting goals and strategies for the economic development of the district, as well as the identification of candidate projects of potential funding. All meetings are open to the public.

Mallozzi joined Bankwell in 2017 and previously completed three terms as first selectman of New Canaan. He has served as chairman of the New Canaan Board of Finance, Fairfield County CEO representative to the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, ex-officio of the New Canaan Town Council, and secretary and interior firefighter with New Canaan Fire Company No. 1.

“Given Rob’s robust knowledge of economic development and his substantial ties to the community, I am confident that Rob will be a strong addition to the Western Connecticut Economic Development District board,” said Bankwell CEO Chris Gruseke.

“Bankwell’s Rob Mallozzi is an ideal choice for inclusion in this regional economic initiative,” said Westport First Selectman and WCEDD Vice Chairman Jim Marpe. “Rob brings a wealth of experience based on his roles as the former first selectman in New Canaan, as a commercial property owner and as an executive at a growing, Connecticut-chartered bank. He will serve our group well as we work to define and evaluate economic initiatives leading to ensuring that our region remains an important participant in the economic development of our state.”
